Nursery Guidelines
Our mission in the nursery is to be the helping hands of Jesus, to engage with and nurture the young children of Cross Roads, while keeping them safe and secure in our care. Here’s how to do that:
1. Take time to engage with parent and child upon arrival and at pick up. Let parents know of diaper changes.
2. Be mindful of the topics of conversation while in the nursery.
3. Limit cell phone use to texting parents in the event they need to come to get an upset child or in the case of emergencies.
4. All children shall stay in the nursery at all times. If a child is fussing, do not remove the child from the nursery.
5. To contact the parents in the event of an inconsolable child, please send them a text message to come and get their child. If they do not respond, send an adult helper to find them.
6. Wipe down the changing pad after each diaper change.
7. Only adult volunteers shall handle diaper changes and/or bathroom trips.
8. If a child is taken to use the bathroom, leave the bathroom door slightly open so that the adult and child are not secluded in the bathroom.
9. Adult volunteers may give the children snacks provided in the nursery if the parents have given permission to do so. Please be mindful that lunch time is soon after second service and late morning snacks should be limited.
10. Check parent tags with tags on the back of the child before releasing the child to their parents.
11. When parents are coming to pick up their children, keep the half door to the nursery closed and individually release children to their parents to ensure that no child runs out of the nursery unattended.
12. Stay in the nursery until all children have been picked up and help tidy the room.
13. Put any toys that have been soiled or chewed on underneath the sink, in the plastic bin.
14. Nursery Preteen/Teen volunteers: any preteen or teen nursery volunteer must be 4th grade or older. Only helpers age 12 and older may lift and carry children. At all times there must be a minimum of 2 adults volunteering in the nursery.
We can all help hold each other accountable to these guidelines. If you see anything that needs attention, or have any questions or concerns, please contact Martha Starr (martha@crbic.org).
